28 out of 30
That's the maximum score Belgium ever got in a qualification round for a major tournament. In the last qualification round for the World Cup in Russia. Belgium won 9 out of 10 games against Greece, Gibraltar, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cyprus. A draw at home against Greece kept Belgium from a clean sweep. Eventually Belgium became third at the World Cup.

This qualification is played against Russia, Cyprus, San-Marino, Scotland and Kazachstan. So far Belgium has 8 wins out of 8 games. The next few days Belgium has to play away against Russia on Saturday and at home against Cyprus on Tuesday. Belgium is already qualified, and so is Russia, as they only lost against Belgium. The newspapers are all talking about a clean sweep, and a magical 30 points out of a possible 30. It would be great, but I have my doubts, as football players are keen to play a little less determined with nothing really at stake, but honour. Players still have more than half of a season ahead of them, and will not take the risk to get injured for just some record, in my humble opinion. That still gives Belgium a chance to get the 30 points, because the Russians are in the same position, nothing at stake. And Cyprus, well, that should be a peace of cake for Belgium, at least at home.

Curious what we will get, it would be great though, but without Vertonghen, Kompany and Vermaelen, the defense looks fragile. We will know a lot more after Saturday's game.
